Inspired by the titular character, Elinor Dashwood, in Jane Austen’s 1811 novel, Sense and Sensibility, who seeks to balance her private feelings and her social obligations, my sculptural project frames and choreographs viewer interaction within the social space of the exhibition venue (viewers are prompted by my sculptures to face one way or another, stand near and apart, crouch, etc.). I use floor sculptures to recreate the psychological vantage points that Austen’s Elinor inhabits in the novel.
