Islands is a remake of an image I once saw in Aperture magazine of Onekotan Island photographed from the space shuttle. Even as I fell in love with the beauty of the image, I realized that I could never be in outer space to capture it. Either the image is fact and my gaze is faked, or, as I have done, the image is faked but my gaze is real. Fashioned out of corn flour, these islands were replicated by referencing NASA's online photographic archives and topographical atlases.
